There are basically two main types of car races, the quarter mile an a track. The quarter mile race starts off with a burnout, then two car line up and launch their cars to see who can go a quarter mile first in a straight line. This may not seem to difficult, but some cars have so much power that you really need to be a skilled driver. With automatic cars basically all you do it put the peddle to the metal and hold on. Racing around a track is where it gets interesting and separates the men from the boys. When picking a car you want to race around a track you won’t want to go with the most horsepower, but rather the best power to weight ratio. Power to weight ratio is how much horsepower you have to the weight of your vehicle. An ideal track car would be any kind of Lotus. Most of them weigh less than 2400 lbs and have between 200 to 700 horsepower. Not only do they have a great power to weight ratio but they handle like nothing else. The steering is so stiff that when I drove one I couldn’t even make a right turn with one hand. These are the most popular types of car races and whichever you decide to do would drastically depend on the type of car you have.
